Where to Eat Venice?

Run by Maurizio Gasparini and to my mind, one of the best restaurants in Venice with a wonderful selection of wines... be warned, however, as this restaurant is expensive.
LA VECIA CAVANA

Rio Terà SS. Apostoli, 4624 - 30131 Venezia

My grandfather used to eat at this restaurant which was then run by Enrico's father. Our families have been friends forever... hence while we must be biassed it is one of the last remaining real Venetian restaurants with a great selection of local dishes and good selection of local wines. If you like sardines then the 'Sarde in Saor' is a must.
RISTORANTE ACQUA PAZZA

For something a little different, this great Sicilian eatery that also does pizzas and often has very good fresh fish. Tables laid on a magnificent terrace under the stars, the enchanting settings of Campo Sant’Angelo, the Ristorante Acqua Pazza and its cuisine are an exclusive and extraordinary piece of Amalfi in Venice.
CAFFE FLORIAN VENEZIA

This is my husband and my favourite. We used to meet here before we got married. Important that you make sure you walk to the bar area and do not get sidestepped into sitting at a table in one of the side rooms as they have two price lists i.e. a drink at the bar is half-price of one of the side rooms.
HARRY'S BAR

You cannot visit Venice without having a bellini at Harry's Bar.
Throughout its 89 years' history, Harry's Bar has been the witness of the XX century in Venice. Its importance was also acknowledged by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage that declared it a National Landmark in 2001.
LA ZUCCA
Sestiere Santa Croce 1762, 30135 Venezia VE

A great vegetarian restaurant and one of my favourites
Specialities: pumpkin flan, potatoes cake, vegetarian course with rice or couscous.
A nice feature of the restaurant is the door on the canal, that allows customers to came inside directly from a boat.
CANTINA DO SPADE

Something that is very common in Venice is instead of stopping for lunch (sitting down) you stand up at the bar and eat a few 'Cicchetti' - the early evening alternative is going from bar to bar drinking an 'ombra' (a small glass of red wine) and eating a 'cicchetti' then moving on. Whatever you do, do not miss this bar!
TRATTORIA DA GIGI

Last but not least, there is also a simple inexpensive but good pizzeria which is literally directly under our home and is a great place for an honest lunch.
